Wow, I just reviewed some of the designer clothing on the Golden Globes. So many duds! One stunning happy dress worn by a Holly Somebody that was the only bright spot I saw...finally just stopped looking. So depressing! Bummer!

Didn't watch a minute of it - cute movie on TCM last night - we had just finished supper and cleaning up and went straight to the TV to watch that movie, bypassing any awards show.

I'm amazed when I hear about awards being given out these days and I realize I don't know most of the people in show biz any more.  Yet I could tell DH last night that Jeanne Crain was in "State Fair" before that movie and "Cheaper By the Dozen" after it.  And they were all dressed to the 9's in the movie.  The heyday of 1940's Hollywood costume design.

.....As are the beautiful undergarments that made those dresses flow and drape so nicely.  When was the last time any starlet wore a full slip?  Spanx are the new girdles, I guess.  My mother didn't go anywhere without her girdle when I was little!  And stockings, and hat, and gloves, and some sort of fancy purse.

Remember when every woman emulated Jackie Kennedy?  The Chanel suits?  And before that, Grace Kelly?  Back when clothes were tailored, predictable, and understandable.

sigh...I guess that's why I collect vintage patterns...just to see something pretty or fun. I have 4 dolls that I want to scale down those patterns for. A Revlon Alexander teenager (from the early 50's, a 1959 Barbie, Brickette (1962) and an American girl doll. And some patterns of dolls from the 30's and 40's. I can get my design fix in that way. Although I have a raft of blouse patterns from the 1920s- 1990s that I'd love to make just to learn techniques from the past. Sigh. So many things I'd love to do.
